So... back from Le Mans

I've gotta say, it was the best time I've had in ages. My sisters boyfriend Guy organised the whole thing down to a T, the campsite was nothing short of amazing (think Lambos, new Skylines, Porker GT3s), we even had our own bar, showers and toilets. The weather was touch and go on the way there but we pitched up perfectly and went for our first beer up on a small hill overlooking the track... so fast and loud you have no idea, the Corvettes were the loudest things there without a doubt, and they were only in the GT2 class.

What pretty much followed was a weekend of sun, beer, football, UB40, beer, cars, rain, beer, 10 blokes in a hypermarket arguing over what food to get and over 400 photos to sort through in the end.

Hopefully I'll remember what actually went on so I can write my report!

Le Mans blog 2

So, it's only about 6 days till we head over to France now for Le Mans 2010. Everything's pretty much sorted, Guy (my sister's boyfreind) got the Elise sorted and it looks amazing, hopefully our mate Russ will get the 360 back in time as well.

It's gonna be an early start (we're meeting people at 5.15 Thursday morning), which aint too funny but I don't really care too much about that, the ferry ride over there should be good, it's going to be filled with some amazing cars. I'm hoping to see a few dubs cause I know someone goes pretty much every year in a splitty. I'll be taking pics and doing a write-up for the site, so look out for that after the 14th when we get back, that is if I actually remember what happened as I'm guessing we're gonna be drinking quite a bit over the time we're there.

Can't bloody wait for the World Cup as well, I don't think we've got a hope in hell again but we could be lucky, win all our group matches and face a semi-decent second place team.

My first car crash

So, I had a little accident a few weeks ago in the bug, I lost the back end going over a wet/oily mini roundabout and hit another car coming the other way. The car I hit was a people carrier type thing so the bonnet took most of the impact so it wasn't too bad at all. The car is now at Kustom Dub Werks and Tim's gonna work his magic on it. Definately needs a new bonnet but the dent in the wing can hopefully be knocked out along with the dent in the front valance.

I was so pissed off with myself at the time but there's no way (I think) I could've saved it, I guess it comes down to experience and I'll know what to do if I'm in that situation again. I'm hoping to have it all done and dusted in 3-4 weeks so it should be ready for Bugjam, I've got Le Mans in about a month so that's kinda taken my mind off the whole thing, I'm missing out on Peppercorn, but I'm going to Le Mans for god sake!!!! I think I'm gonna have a good time?!?

Le Mans

Not much going on in my world at the moment, it seems to be more involved around the end of the footy season than anything else.  Being a Chelsea fan has it's ups and downs most seasons,  losing games we should be winning hands down doesn't help matters one bit, but I guess that's why we follow the game so avidly. I'll be so happy if we do the double this season, it's ours to lose though.

Work's been good, a payrise would be nice as everyone's working their arses off, but I guess everyone feels the same way. Finally got to see my write-up on the Volksworld show a few days ago, it's the first time I've ever done anything like that, so to see it up on the site was cool, if you've read it, I hope you like it. I ended up taking about 130 shots, so it took me a while to go through them and sort out the best of a bad bunch. I'm hoping to start taking pictures like this of people's cars a bit more regular, making a bit of extra cash out of something I like doing would be a bonus as well.

I'm off to Le Mans in just over a month for the 24Hr race, Chris wants me to do a write-up for that as well which is cool. I think this will be a bit more debauched, 5 days of sun (hopefully), petrol, cars and beer will end up being a good break away from the London rat race. Last year, I'm well informed they had suntan oil girls there, and they were camping close to where we're going to be this year as well!!! I think that's the main reason I'm going!

Well... back again, not much to write really. I got the '59 back last week after some twat reversed into it... Andy (the panel beater) has done an amazing job on it but the paint I got from the resto doesn't match, it's slightly bluer than the paint on there at the moment. I don't know if that means the paint has changed in the pots or it's faded slightly on the car, but I need to get some new paint made up and have it done again. This means he can sort out a few scuffs on the front and sort out the semaphores, I might even get the horngrilles done as well so they blend in a bit more with the front end.

Anyways, looking forward to the Volksworld show at the weekend, Chris managed to sort out a few press passes for me so I can get in before the crowds, I guess I'll be rushin round like a blue arsed fly try to get as many pics as I can before they all get in my way. I'm off to Le Mans as well in June, then hopefully Bugjam as well, hope the weather's better than last year. I might try and run the '59 on the strip to see what I can get out of her, my speedo only goes up to 80 so I haven't got a clue after that!

Those who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than those who try nothing and succeed.

It looks like I'm not going to pass this year at university, the maths is just way to hard form me on the engineering course.

So it looks like I'm going back home next year. At first I found this really depressing and felt I had failed but my dream of working in motorsport is not over  just because a can't get a degree. The plan is to move back in with my parents, try and find a job in a garages or low level motorsport team somewhere and work my way up.

Its not all bad though as when I'm home I will be able to work whenever so finding a job will be a lot easier, meaning when I do find a job the Mk1 will be on the road!!

The '59

Posted by JohnnyW in Untagged

First off I'd like to say hi,  I'm Jonathan and I'm one of the new designers for Torque VW. I've been helping Chris out with some of the banners that you see when you first get onto the site.

I haven't been in dubs for that long, but I've bought, done up and sold a '71 cal look beetle and already purchased another one, this one being a lovely '59 ex drag car that doesn't need much doing to it. It's got a 1641 in the back with twin 40's, a turbo thomas exhaust, Gene Berg shifter and is slightly faster than the old '71 I owned before.

Hopefully I'm going to be going to as many shows as I can this year, the first one is the Volksworld  show at the end of March. Last year's was good so hopefully this year will be as good if not better. I'm doing a write up for the site and taking as many pictures as I can so look out for that when it goes up. The big one this year for me though is Le Mans. My sister's boyfriend has been on my case about this for years, and this year I'm finally going. From what I've heard it's worth every euro I'm gonna be spending. Here's to hope the sun will be shining and I'll get to see the England game while I'm out there as well!!!!
