Ultimate Dubs 2010

E-mail Print PDF

Last year was without doubt an amazing show season. DC burst on to the scene with it's first show (check the DC show report), Edition38 rolled out yet another quality show but was let down by pikey scum ruining the atmostphere. Players in their second year stealed the best show of the season with it's end of season party (one to watch for 2010, check out the Players show report).

The UK cars were also raising their game with top quality cars like Rob Keightley's Mk1 16V, Andy Lucas's Mk4 GTI, Pete McGinley's MK3 1.8T, Kenny MacMillan's Golf Rallye and the season stealer Type 3 Detectives' Brasilia. The UK has been firmly put back on top of the VW scene. Can we keep it this way?

So atfer what seemed like the longest, coldest, wettest winter, how was Ultimate Dubs going to fair?

Now in it's 6th year, UD has built up a reputation of the show season opener. Being based at the Telford International Centre, smack bang in the middle of the UK, it attracts hoards of enthusiast, thousands of enthusiasts  to be exact. The numbers felt a little less than last year and the queuing to get in was quick. Compared to last year when enthusiasts queued for 1 hour to get in.

Being one of the only major VW shows inside it delivers a very different atmostphere to E38 style shows. Like marmite, you'll love it or hate it.

The benefit of it being mainly inside is, it's March, so if your like me and can't stand being in the cold standing in a wet field, this is the show for you. That being said the weather was kind to us this year. So taking a walk around the out side club stands and auto jumble was a welcome break from the bright lights.

This year saw the usual european tingent attending the show. Bar the odd max power incarnation it was good to see what our fellow enthusiasts were up to.

Competition was pretty fierce, with many months of hard work finally being rolled out of their winter hibernation.  Air-ride is pretty much required now for the perfect show stance, but there are still many showing us how it use to be done. So don't think about robbing the bank just yet. The scene has a really good mix at the moment, with early to late cars, shining or flat paint work and chrome or OEM+ details. There's something for everyone's tastes, all with their own little twists to inspire us all.
